E S W L is short form for EXTRA CORPOREAL (OUTSIDE THE
BODY) SHOCK WAVE LITHOTRIPSY (Disintegration of Stones).
In this procedure stones located in the Kidney & Ureter
are localised and broken down by shock Waves into fine
particles. The Stone is broken down by Lithotripter into
fine particles. The patient is therefore asked to drink
plenty of Fluids to encourage the passage of these particles
out of the body with the urine. Single, Multiple &
Staghorn Stones of various Sizes and Shape have now been
